Weekly Updates: 07/07/14 – 07/20/14

20140323-222747.jpgNow we are getting all caught up! I am planning on sharing my Zooma training plan at the end of this week with you all, and that will hopefully add some variety to my workouts!

07/07 – 07/13

Tuesday I had a double, Poise Fusion Xpress in the morning and Pure Barre in the afternoon.

Wednesday and Friday I also took a Pure Barre class and Thursday I took Buti at Studio Poise. Thursday was my last forseeable class at Studio Poise. I don’t have any more classes in my account, and while I love the variety and teachers there I just wasn’t super motivated to get out of bed for class, and that for me means it is time to switch it up.

07/14 – 07/20

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were Pure Barre days. Since I have the Summer Slimdown special, I want to make the most of it. Unfortunately, every single one of my July weekends is packed, so I am trying to get at least 3-4 classes in a week.

Food

The past two weekends have been hard, we had B’s birthday party, OMG I CAN’T BELIEVE HE IS THREE, and this past weekend was a close friend/family member’s wedding and B was the ring bearer. That meant a lot of time around not such great food, and I think I did really well, considering.  I have written before about how summer is more difficult for me, but I have been making an effort to make sure I am eating 100% clean and healthy when I am home, and that way I don’t feel guilty when I don’t have healthy options!

What have you been doing for workouts this summer?

A very busy and marvelous summer!

Don’t forget to enter the BarreFit App giveaway, it ends tonight at 11:59 pm EST!

Without fail April rolls around and all of sudden my summer weekends start filling up rapidly. I don’t mind it, I love spending time with family and friends, but I am even more thankful when we do have a low-key weekend. We don’t have one of those for a few weeks, but I am super excited for what is coming up!

IMG_8501

Best cupcake face, ever. This kid is definitely mine. We have had so many kid’s birthday parties, which means B has had a ton of cake recently.

IMG_8556Even though summer doesn’t start until my birthday Saturday, nothing says summer like Summer Shandy on tap. It really was marvelous!

IMG_8557

I also love that I get to spend so many of my busy weekends with my favorite people.

This weekend is particularly exciting as it is my 30th birthday, and while I thought I would be a bit more apprehensive about turning than I am, I am looking forward to throwing it down with all of our friends and family.

What marvelous things are going on in your life? How did you celebrate turning 30?

Summer is hard

Before I get to today’s topic, I want to share two articles. The first is written by one of the owners & trainers at Achieve Fitness (my gym) and is about the struggles that even trainers face with the scale. The second article is one that she shared via social media and is an eye opener about what we are teaching children about health in the grocery store. Please take some time to read both of these!

For most people, well in New England at least, you look forward to summer all year long. Beautiful, sunny, long days. Plenty of fun things to do outside. Tons of parties and time to spend with friends and family.

Unless you are trying to lose weight.

At least for me, summer is the hardest months to lose weight. Even in the winter months, the temptation to indulge isn’t as strong as it is in the summer.

IMG 4086
This was my reward after my second half-marathon

In the summer I run a lot more than I do in the winter. But with the running comes the mindset, well I burned X calories so I can eat this. I don’t tend to do that with strength training for some reason.

Also in the summer are the every weekend bbq’s and beer and desserts. This is where the summer gets sneaky on ya.

The desserts, like strawberry shortcake, that’s healthy right? I mean it has strawberries.

IMG 6323

Of course, then we have the drinks. Nothing tastes as good on a summer day as an ice cold beer or margarita on the rocks, right?

IMG 6326

Then last but not least, and this may only be a problem for me, is the abundance of celebrations in the summer months.

For us it kicks off in May with my sister’s birthday, mothers day, and both our mom’s birthdays. June has fathers day & my birthday. July has our anniversary, B’s birthday, and Nick’s birthday. Talk about dessert over load.

So for me, I am looking forward to fall, the slowdown with the crazy celebrations and the regular eating.

What months are hardest for you?

MIMM: Concerts Galore

I have had quite the marvelous few weeks instead of writing lengthy posts about each one, I figured I would give you the highlight reel for this Marvelous Monday link up. Thanks for hosting, Katie!

Last weekend, Nick and I were able to go to the Jay Z/Justin Timberlake show at Fenway Park. I won tickets through a radio twitter concert, which was pretty amazing. We were in the second section back and had a sick view.

Photo 2 6

our view before the show started

Photo 3 4

part of our view during the show. They had a massive set up and huge screens

I loved the show, it was more amazing than I would’ve even imagined, but my hugest issue was the fact that the tickets said the show started at 7, but they had some really annoying dj playing for almost 90 minutes and the show didn’t start until 8:30. My favorite songs of the night were Holy Grail and 99 Problems, Justin playing the part of the cop was amazing.

The following week was crazy, the B man and I headed to Maine with my dad, his wife, her kids, my sister and her boyfriend. Nick was crazy busy at work so unfortunately he couldn’t come. I don’t really have any photos, because we barely had cell or internet so I just ended up leaving my phone in the room the whole time. It was so nice to unplug and relax for a bit.

Friday we had tickets for the John Mayer concert in CT. Front Row.

Photo 4 2
view before the show

John Mayer is hands down my favorite artist. I have seen him almost every single tour, and met him almost 10 years ago. I love seeing him live and this show was absolutely amazing. Philip Philips opened up for him and he was also outstanding. I loved him on American Idol, but you could tell that he felt he was in his element on that stage, singing his music.

Photo 1 7

Then of course John Mayer. You could tell his voice is still not the same, but you could clearly tell all he wanted to do was sing on stage and he was enjoying every minute.

Photo 2 7

His set list for the CT show was awesome. He sang 83 for the first time and hearing the crowd sing along was so moving. This song from his first popular album, it felt like ages since I have heard it live, and everyone in the audience singing together was wonderful.

Photo 4 3

He also sang 4 songs from his new album, due out on Tuesday, and my favorite was “Waiting on the Day” and his encore song was a long version of Gravity, then John and the band left. It is definitely one of the best shows I have seen of his and I am glad I got to share it with Nick.

Then today I was looking online and Nick and I are on the webpage for the Hartford Set List show.

How was your week? What was the best concert you have ever been to?

Summer Craziness and Running Updates

I know that my blogs have been inconsistent as of late, and I want to apologize.

These summer months, and the nice weather lasts only so long, I like to spend the majority of my weekdays with B.

IMG 6382
Fill me up with gas please

IMG 6379
You’re taking to long, let me handle it

He received a bunch of wonderful outside toys, and before you know it, it is going to be brutally cold, so I want to make sure he has ample time to play with them.

Zooma-logo-FINAL(crop)

It’s also only about 8 weeks until the Zooma Half Marathon (by the way you can still get 10% off with the code: CCAMB9) and I don’t think I have had a great training so far. I am getting the miles in but I feel slow, and my last long run was supposed to be 7 miles and I had to tap out at 4. My left hip, right leg and left heel were bothering me and instead of hurting myself I decided to take a break.

IMG 6364

I am still doing a ton of strength training and metabolic conditioning at Achieve, so I am hoping that I will be able to log some serious miles these next few weekends, I really want to PR at Zooma, but I know that I need to set myself up for success.

I know I will be out and about the next 3 or 4 weeks so I need to make sure that I make training a priority.

How is your summer training going?

Celebration Month!

It has been a marvelous 4 weeks indeed! If you have been reading this blog, even for a short amount of time, you might have noticed that it has been an explosion of celebrations.

Let’s just say Nick and I have a very busy beginning of summer. It starts with my birthday in mid-June, our anniversary, B’s birthday, and then ends almost exactly 4 weeks later with Nick’s birthday. True to most years we have had plans for every single one of the weekends during that period.

This past weekend was no exception, but it was all in the name of celebrating Nick’s birthday, and as a wonderful present, his newest Apple app was featured on App Advice (Simple Mic) check it out!

On Saturday night we gathered a few of our friends and headed to Krust Wood-fired Pizza & Bourbon Bar in Middletown, per the recommendation of Caitlin!

The birthday boy & Cait

I will be honest, I am not always super pumped for pizza, it’s okay Nick calls me Un-American because of it. However, I knew I would be okay with Krust because their menu has very unique pizzas. I also don’t like bourbon, but don’t worry, everyone else at the table had their fair share of bourbon, especially my husband.

I have to say, I was immediately blown away by Krust’s customer service, while they do not take reservations, we were able to give them a heads up that we had a large party and what time we were planning on coming in, and Kevin (owner and bartender extraordinaire) realized there was enough space for us right before we arrived and they set up a table so we could sit right away. He also came by the table multiple times to see how everything was. Fabulous!

IMG 6319

We obviously started with drinks, Cait had me order the Onyx Apple Pie, it wasn’t listed on their menu so I am not sure exactly what was in it, but it was delicious, a bit to strong as I was driving later in the evening, so I drank about 75% of the drink and Cait finished the rest. I love a friend that will step in for me, ha!

Not long after we started our drinks, we ordered our food. Krust has an everyday menu, but they also post their daily specials on Instagram!

I knew I HAD to have the Brussels pizza, that had fresh garlic, fresh mozzarella, parmesan, roasted brussels sprouts, roasted onion, evoo and salt. Krust is extremely accommodating, I added an egg and the kale medley that was on the special pizza of the day to my Brussels pizza. I don’t think I can eat pizza at another place again.

IMG 6321

This picture doesn’t even begin to do justice to the pizza. I even dipped my krust into Cait’s Gazpacho, which I told Kevin was the best Gazpacho I have ever tasted. I couldn’t finish the entire pizza so I sent my leftovers home with Cait for her and her mom.

I ordered a second during dinner, my traditional margarita.

IMG 6323

Krust is next door to the best cupcakes in CT, NoRA Cupcake Company. Anyone in CT that I have told the name of my blog too has told me that I NEED to get to NoRA ASAP. Krust sells their cupcakes for dessert.

I went with the obvious, the Margarita cupcake.

IMG 6327
Margarita with a side of…margarita. They have an entire cocktail line, I need to get my butt back their and try the Bubbly Cupcake.

It was nice and fluffy, the cake was moist and full of flavor, not dry at all. The frosting had salt sprinkles and it tasted just like a margarita. The sweet and savory hit the spot. I can’t wait to go back and try another flavor or four.

Cait & I. Bloggers in crime.

Again, I want to say a huge thanks to Kevin (and the entire staff at Krust) for being awesome and making sure our party was always happy. The staff at Krust was awesome and I would suggest you all make your way to Middletown for great pizza, bourbon, and cupcakes!

While this month has been extremely busy (and felt like I was constantly on the go), I wouldn’t change a thing. I was able to spend our special moments with our amazing friends and families, and our friends who are just like family. This past month has helped me realize it’s about having quality friends in my life and not quantity. Thank you all for being a part of our special days.

Playlist Thursday: Summer Songs

It’s that time of the week again. Time to link up with Pavement Runner. This is an awesome link up I always try to partake in because I get to see songs that I might not have otherwise heard of and I always end up adding at least one song to my running playlist. Make sure you head over to Pavement Runner to check out everyone else who contributed this week.

Gonna be mmhmm so good, mmhmm so nice

The end of summer

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have noticed a lot of Greek photos this past weekend.

The end of summer for me comes when it is the Greek Festival in Orange, CT. Our weekend started off slowly, we relaxed for a good part of Saturday.

IMG 3640

Starting our lunch with a real Greek Salad. Tomato, Cucumber, Onion, Feta and Olive Oil from Greece.

This salad is one of my favorite parts of summer, I am always sad when tomatoes are not in season.

IMG 3643

B is starting to walk! I can’t believe it. I cannot believe that my baby is almost 14 months old.

IMG 3645

So determined and so proud of himself!

IMG 3647

Frappe Seriously, Greek coffee is so so good.

After a few hours at the festival with family and friends we headed home.

Sunday, we relaxed with a friend and that included a trip to a new self-serve fro yo place. Red Velvet & Vanilla yogurt, delicious combo!

IMG 3651

We also spent some quality time at a friends BBQ, and had some great conversations. Let me tell you, adult conversation is so nice. I am used to conversation with B or just Nick on a daily basis, so it was nice to add some other people into that mix.

While our weekend was relaxing, the past 2 days have not been. I ended up taking B to the doctor, he has been crying and in pain every time he pee’s, which meant the doctor had to catherize him and take a urine sample. We find out the results of that soon, hopefully everything is okay!

How did you spend your long weekend?

Summer Adventures

Somedays I forget to write about the things that B and I do during the day. We have our weekly music class and park dates, but their have been some other great things we have done this summer. Instead of writing an extremely long post, I will share some pictures!
