Playlist Thursday: Summer Songs

It’s that time of the week again. Time to link up with Pavement Runner. Make sure you head over to Pavement Runner to check out everyone else who contributed this week.

Playlist thursday teal

Today’s theme is: Summer Songs. My hands down favorite summer song is Summertime by Kenny, but since I used it recently, I decided to use country as a them and go with my other favorite summer country songs.

SOMETHING OLD

Artist: DJ Khaled featuring Ludacris, Rick Ross, T-Pain, and Snoop Dog

Title: All I Do Is Win

Side Note: I know this isn’t quite old enough, but I keep putting it on lately, and I wanted to include it this week.

Quotable:
All I do is win, win, win no matter what
Got money on mind, I can never get enough
And every time I step up in the building
Everybody hands go up

And they stay there, and they say “yeah,” and they stay there
Up, down, up, down, up, down
‘Cause all I do is win, win, win
And if you goin’ in, put your hands in the air, make ‘em stay there

SOMETHING CURRENT

Artist: Fall Out Boy

Title: Young Volcanoes

Side Note: Their new album is amazing BTW, go out and et it now. This song isn’t a single (yet?) but there is a vide on YouTube and it is my favorite song on the album!

Quotable:

We are wild, we are like young volcanoes
We are wild, Americana, exotica
Do you wanna feel a little beautiful baby?

Come on make it easy, say I never mattered
Run it up the flagpole
We will teach you how to make boys next door
Out of assholes

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER

Artist: Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton

Side Note: This song has been a part of every playlist since the bombings, this song really gets at the mental part of running for me, and always brings me back to a better place.

Quotable:
We came here to live life like nobody was watching
I got my city right behind me
If I fall, they got me.
Learn from that failure gain humility and then we keep marching ourselves

Here we go back, this is the moment
Tonight is the night, we’ll fight ’til it’s over
So we put our hands up like the ceiling can’t hold us

Today’s theme is: Radio Jams. Songs that get or got ridiculously overplayed on the radio and eventually won you over. Ijust happened to pick songs by pop princesses. Whoops.

SOMETHING OLD
Artist: BRITNEY

Title: …Baby one more time

Side Note: Since I went to high school back in the era where we still bought cd or tape singles, every guy I knew had a thing for the cd single cover for this song, I guess it could be worse ha. I didn’t like Britney at first, but now Britney4ever. (Pace: 6:24)

Quotable:
My loneliness is killin’ me
I must confess I still believe
When I’m not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign, hit me baby one more time

SOMETHING CURRENT
Artist: Selena Gomez

Title: Come and Get It

Side Note: Nick LOVED her song “Love you like a love song” and ever since then I have been inclined to turn up her stuff when it comes on the radio. I really love this song, it’s a little bit different then most pop on the radio now. Plus she can really sing unlike her good friend TSwift. (Pace: 9:00)

Quotable:
This love will be the death of me, but I know I’ll die happily
I’ll know I’ll know I’ll know
Because you love me so…Yeah!

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER
Artist: Demi Lovato

Title: Heart Attack

Side Note: I didn’t really hear about Demi until she went to get help for her ED and then was a part of X Factor. I think she is a great role model and again can sing. Also, didn’t know until the other day that she and Selena are BFF’s in real life and were both on Barney…say what? (Pace: 7:36)

Quotable:
But you make me wanna act like a girl
Paint my nails and wear perfume
For you, make me so nervous
That I just can’t hold your hand

Do you love or hate any of these songs?

Today’s theme is: Guilty Pleasures . I don’t get embarrassed by my music but I know it will embarrass my kids and definitely embarrasses some of the adults in my life, so I went with the embarrassing songs ;)

SOMETHING OLD
Artist: Eminem

Title: Lose Yourself

Side Note: I know every single word. Embarrasses everyone but me. Sorry B!

Quotable:

The soul’s escaping, through this hole that is gaping
This world is mine for the taking
Make me king, as we move toward a new world order
A normal life is boring, but superstardom’s close to post mortem

SOMETHING CURRENT
Artist: Miranda Lambert

Title: Mama’s Broken Heart

Side Note: This actually is a guilty pleasure for me as I’m not usually a Miranda fan, but I love this song.

Quotable:

Can’t get revenge and keep a spotless reputation
Sometimes revenge is a choice you gotta make
My mama came from a softer generation
Where you get a grip and bite your lip just to save a little face

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER
Artist: Wiz Khalifia & Snoop Dog featuring Bruno Mars

Title: Young, Wild & Free

Side Note: I’m pretty sure even Nick gets embarrassed by my song choices. This is one I definitely listen to alone.

Quotable:

That’s how it should be done
Soon as you thinkin’ you’re down
Find how to turn things around
Now things are looking up
From the ground up
Pound up

What are your guilty pleasure songs?

Today’s theme is: artists you’ve seen live

SOMETHING OLD
Artist: Billy Joel

Title: Only the Good Die Young

Side Note: I love Billy Joel and I was finally able to see him in concert in 2007 with my sister and mom. It was amazing. This song will always have a special place in my heart.

Quotable:
You might have heard I run with a dangerous crowd
We ain’t too pretty we ain’t too proud
We might be laughing a bit too loud
Aw But that never hurt no one

SOMETHING CURRENT
Artist: Justin Timberlake ft. Jay Z

Title: Suit & Tie

Side Note: I know that a ton of people hate this song, but I love it. I have seen JT at least 5 times, the best of course was when my seats got upgraded because the lighting equipment was where my seat was. This was from the last tour as *Nsync.

Quotable:
And as long as I got my suit and tie
I’ma leave it all on the floor tonight
And you got fixed up to the nines
Let me show you a few things
All pressed up in black and white
And you’re dressed in that dress I like
Love is swinging in the air tonight
Let me show you a few things

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER
Artist: Matt Nathanson

IMG 5139

Title: Modern Love

Side Note: I have been a huge fan of Matt’s since 2001. I have only seen him live once in 2004. With my sister obviously, and we got to meet him! He was one of the most down to earth and funniest people I have ever met. It doesn’t hurt that he grew up outside Boston and now resides in my other favorite city, San Francisco. It was hard for me to choose which of his songs to pick, but I went with one of the ones that has a real video, and it is a dang good video.

Quotable:
I’d let em in, I
Oh man, I’d let em win
I’d burn my house down
Just to hear them scream my name
I’ve carried hopes
And heavy daydreams she said
But I’m done with sleeping

Take the phone calls
Take this circus
Take the drama, cause baby it’s worthless

Playlist Thursday: Let’s Get Speedy

Make sure you head over to Pavement Runner to check out everyone else who contributed this week.

Playlist thursday teal

Today’s theme is: Songs that make you speed up the tempo.

SOMETHING OLD
Artist: The Postal Service

Title: Such Great Heights

Side Note: TPS has been on my radar since my college days, and while this song may seem slow, check out jog.fm, it will tell you what the pace is for a specific song. Such great heights is actually a 7:30 pace, way faster than my pace, and it totally pushes me.

Quotable:
And when you are out there on the road
For several weeks of shows
And when you scan the radio
I hope this song will guide you home

SOMETHING CURRENT
Artist: The Script featuring Will.I.Am

Title: Hall of Fame

Side Note: I know, I know, I have featured this one a bunch, but when I really get into a song I can’t let go. Sorry. (This has an 8:00 min pace)

Quotable:
You can throw your hands up
You can be the clock
You can move a mountain
You can break rocks
You can be a master
Don’t wait for luck
Dedicate yourself and you can find yourself

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER
Artist: Carrie Underwood

Title: Wasted

Side Note: I have loved Carrie since her Idol days. This girl can put such raw emotion into words. This song has a bit of a deeper meaning. (6:00 min pace)

Quotable:
For one split second, she almost turned around
But that would be like pouring rain drops back into a cloud
So she took another step and said
“I see the way out and I’m gonna’ take it”

I don’t wanna spend my life jaded, waiting
To wake up one day and find
That I’ve let all these years go by wasted

Playlist Thursday: Hip Hop, Won’t Stop

It’s that time of the week again. Time to link up with Pavement Runner. This is an awesome link up I always try to partake in because I get to see songs that I might not have otherwise heard of and I always end up adding at least one song to my running playlist. Make sure you head over to Pavement Runner to check out everyone else who contributed this week.

Playlist thursday teal

Today’s theme is: Hip Hop. I LOVE Hip Hop. Just ask my husband, this girl can throw down. It’s awesomely embarrassing (to him), just plain awesome to me.

SOMETHING OLD

Artist: Notorious B.I.G. featuring Puff Daddy & Mase
Title: Mo Money Mo Problems
Side Note: Best hip hop video ever. Those awesome yellow jump suits. Favorite.
Quotable: B.I.G., P-O, P-P-A. No info, for the, DEA. Federal agents mad cause I’m flagrant. Tap my cell, and the phone in the basement. My team supreme, stay clean. Triple beam lyrical dream, I be that. Cat you see at all events bent. Gats in holsters girls on shoulders. Playboy, I told ya, bein mice to me. Bruise too much, I lose, too much. Step on stage the girls boo too much.

SOMETHING CURRENT

Artist: Ryan Lewis and Macklemore
Title: Thrift Shop
Side Note: I didn’t like this song at first, in fact I preferred their slower stuff. But it is definitely grown on me, and its pretty funny.
Quotable: They be like “Oh that Gucci, that’s hella tight”
I’m like “Yo, that’s fifty dollars for a t-shirt”. Limited edition, let’s do some simple addition. Fifty dollars for a t-shirt, that’s just some ignorant bitch shit. I call that getting swindled and pimped, shit. I call that getting tricked by business. That shirt’s hella dope. And having the same one as six other people in this club is a hella don’t. Peep game, come take a look through my telescope. Trying to get girls from a brand? Then you hella won’t.

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER

Artist: Jay-Z
Title: 99 Problems
Side Note: I love and listen to a TON of Jay Z, but this song holds a special place in my heart, and I can pretty much rap it on demand.
Quotable: I tried to ignore him and talk to the Lord. Pray for him, cause some fools just love to perform. You know the type loud as a motor bike. But wouldn’t bust a grape in a fruit fight.

Playlist Thursday: I wanna rock!

Today’s theme is: Rock. I am hoping to throw in a few different types of rock for you today.

SOMETHING OLD

Artist: Aerosmith
Title: Love In An Elevator
Side Note: Bean Town represent. I love a lot of classic rock. This particular category was hard as I had about 5 different songs I wanted to choose. My sister and I used to love this song and sing it at the top of our lungs.
Quotable: Jacki’s in the elevator. Lingerie second floor. She said ‘Can I see you later. And love you just a little more?. I kinda hope we get stuck. nobody gets out alive. She said ‘I’ll show ya how to fax in the mailroom honey. and have you home by five’

SOMETHING CURRENT

Artist: Anberlin
Title: Self Starter
Side Note: This is from there newest album, there is no real video, but I love this song.
Quotable: Last night rolled over beside my bed. That sort of madness, could leave one dead. Our eyes deceive, we were on fire. Mistook you for love and love desire. I still can’t feel nothing just want to hold something. Tell me again what’s real, tell me again what to feel

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER

Artist: Queen
Title: Killer Queen
Side Note: I could of gone with the typical Queen song for this, but I decided to pick one that is more well known but not your go-to Queen song. The song has enough lulls and pick ups that my pace increases, but not too much that I burn myself out. And FYI Freddie Mercury RIP what a talent, I wish, I had been older when he was alive, there has been no other musician with his vocal range.
Quotable: She’s a Killer Queen. Gunpowder, gelatine. Dynamite with a laser beam. Guaranteed to blow your mind. Anytime

Playlist Thursday: Just Dance!

I am linking up with Pavement Runner today. I LOVE his music posts, mostly because I am always looking for new running songs to add to my playlist, but because of the format of his posts.

Playlist thursday teal

Today’s theme is: Dance Songs, you know for those of you are coordinated enough to run/dance. I am not, although I like to pretend when I am in the basement on my treadmill.

SOMETHING OLD

Artist: Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch
Title: Good Vibrations
Side Note: I am always shocked by how many people don’t know that Mark Wahlberg was the Marky Mark. This was before those sexy Calvin Kelin ads.
Quotable: Yo, it’s about that time. To bring forth the rhythm and the rhyme. I’m a get mine so get yours. I wanna see sweat comin’ out your pores. On the house tip is how I’m swingin’ this.

SOMETHING CURRENT

Artist: Calvin Harris featuring Florence Welch
Title: Sweet Nothing
Side Note: The two of them together, offing brilliant. That is all.
Quotable: So I put my faith in something unknown. I’m living on such sweet nothing. But I’m trying to hope with nothing to hold. I’m living on such sweet nothing. And it’s hard to learn. And it’s hard to love

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER

Artist: Selena Gomez and The Scene
Title: Love You Like a Love Song
Side Note: I usually dislike these tv to music pop princesses, but I love Selena’s more mature voice and the song is wicked catchy.
Quotable: There’s no way to describe what you do to me. You just do to me, what you do. And it feels like I’ve been rescued. I’ve been set free. I am hypnotized by your destiny. You are magical, lyrical, beautiful. You are… And I want you to know baby.

Playlist Thursday: Refreshed for 2013

I am linking up with Pavement Runner today. I LOVE his music posts, mostly because I am always looking for new running songs to add to my playlist, but because of the format of his posts.

Playlist thursday teal

Today’s theme is: Refreshed for 2013. After an awesome win (thanks for the votes) I have to start 2013 on the right foot note, so here are some songs that are refreshing my running for 2013.

SOMETHING OLD

Artist: John Mayer
Title: No Such Thing
Side Note: This song reminds me of high school and serves as reminder to keep pushing forward. Also, he is a BABY in this video. Woah.
Quotable: Well I never lived the dreams of the prom kings
And the drama queens. I’d like to think the best of me. Is still hiding. Up my sleeve. They love to tell you. Stay inside the lines. But something’s better. On the other side

SOMETHING CURRENT

Artist: The Script featuring Will.i.Am
Title: Hall of Fame
Side Note: This song is all about how you can be whatever you put your mind to, and that’s always something I need, running can be so mental sometimes.
Quotable: You could go the distance. You could run the mile. You could walk straight through hell with a smile. You could be the hero. You could get the gold. Breaking all the records that thought never could be broke

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER

Artist: Jason Aldean with Luke Bryan and Eric Church
Title: The Only Way I Know
Side Note: This song also reminds me of good ol’ Vermont and I listen to it when I get a little frustrated and it helps propel me forward/
Quotable: That’s the only way I know. Don’t stop till everything’s gone. Straight ahead never turn round. Don’t back up, don’t back down. Full throttle wide open. You get tired, you don’t show it. Dig a little deeper when you think you can’t dig no more. That’s the only way I know
