Birthday, Billy Joel, and Bachelorette

Anyone else think, Beets, Bears, Battlestar Galactica? No, just me? Moving on.

The past few weeks have been crazy busy, so I figured I would catch you up on all the fun stuff.

Last week I turned 30! Yikes, Nick and I decided to rent a party bus and have all our family and friends on board so that we could see everyone we wanted and not have a party at our house. Since we will be at a wedding for Nick’s 30th we decided we’d have a party for both of us! Unfortunately, I still didn’t get to spend time with everyone, but I had a wonderful time, even if my stomach was killing me the next day!

vueveI mean you have to start your birthday with champagne, right?

And a group shot of course, missing a few people, but we tried!

After that last photo things started to get messy so I will not share those photos ha! But it was a great time regardless!

For my birthday gift, Nick generously bought me tickets to Billy Joel at Fenway. Billy Joel is in my top 5 favorite musicians of all time, and I saw him, I think 8 years ago, when he came to the Garden. Seeing artists at Fenway is amazing, if you live in the city and an artist you like comes to Fenway, GO! it is so worth it!

Prior to the show Nick and I tried this new Greek place that is in the Fenway area, Gyro City, they have authentic Gyros so we had to try them. They were pretty close to what you will get in Greece, so we were very impressed. If you need someone to go with you to try them you know who to ask!

GyroWe also had some amazing Greek fries. Basically, they are thick cut fries with feta and oregano!

After food we headed over to Fenway and walked off our dinner before heading into the concert!

Billy Joel at Fenway

THE man!

Billy, we are on a first name basis, was amazing. He played a lot of the classic songs, but he also played some songs that only some real hardcore fans would be able to recall. He is also a New York man through and through, so while he played the beloved Sweet Caroline, he did not sing, which I found amusing. I did appreciate that he didn’t sing New York State of Mind, instead he had a young girl come out and sing Boston State of Mind as a nod to everything this city has been through and a show of support. After the concert Nick was looking through his twitter feed and saw some complaints about it, you can’t please everyone, and while I love him singing New York State of Mind, the respect that he gave to Boston was amazing, and made me love him even more! My only complaint is that he did not sing We Didn’t Start the Fire, that is my favorite Billy song, but the concert was amazing regardless!

After a crazy whirlwind week, we headed to Connecticut to spend some time with Nick’s family and I had a bachelorette to partake in!

Mohegan BacheloretteBachelorette

We went to Mohegan sun to have a wonderful dinner, hit the club, and of course gamble. I was spent and can’t believe I stayed up until 3 am!!! I had so much fun with all the wonderful women that came to the bachelorette and I can’t wait to celebrate the wedding soon!

What have you been up to? Anything fun that I’ve missed?

2012’s Best Moments.

As the year winds down and I spend the night with some dear family and friends, I wanted to share some of the most important and significant moments of 2012.

February:

One of my favorite desserts was the Samoa Bar I baked for our Superbowl party

Oh, and she got married ;)

One of the most beautiful brides I have ever seen.

Bachelorette Party Recap

Don’t forget, you have until 11:59 pm EST tonight to enter the Bachelorette Giveaway!

I had started planning my sister-in-laws bachelorette party since March. I am glad I can talk about it now, I actually kept it a secret from her, and if you know me, you know that is a HUGE feat.

Our first part of the night was dinner at Legal Seafoods in Cambridge. We had a prix fixe menu in a semi-private room. Let me say that if you are planning an event in the area, this place was phenomenal to work with. I have always loved legal seafoods, but the team I worked with and that handled our party that night was above and beyond what I expected. I even dropped off boxes of stuff a few hours before our reservation and the staff set everything up for me.

I was also able to customize our menu in her honor!

We didn’t get any shots of the first or second course, but I have plenty of the entrees and dessert!

Before dinner, a cheers to the bride to be!

I also had to be rude and FaceTime with my baby!

One of the popular entrees, the crab cakes. Check out all the food. It came with a salad, rice and green beans

The other entree that was popular, filet with mashed potato and broccoli

My sister ordered the everything spiced tuna, OH MY GOSH, this was so good!

I ordered the salmon, I knew I’d be drinking and wanted to eat as healthy as possible

After dinner we hopped on the bachelorette bus that we booked through The Bustonian.

Unfortunately I did not get a photo with everyone who attended but I hope you all had an amazing time :)

Again, we had a phenomenal bus driver that went above and beyond for us. I could not be happier with how the night turned out.

In a few weeks I will be standing on the alter with some of these women and we will all watch her marry her best friend. I cannot wait to be a part of the celebration.

Bachelorette Recap: The Preview & a Giveaway!

If you follow me on twitter you probably know already that it was my sister-in-law’s bachelorette this weekend. We planned for the event to be in Boston so that I could host all the girls. It was a lot of fun and everything went off smoothly.

Part of what I did (with my sister) was to make a goodie bag for everyone in attendance, stocked with party treats.

Let’s start with the bags:

IMG 2054

Each girl received a tote bag that I personalized with their name.

In the bags:

IMG 2056

A reusable plastic cup, personalized with their name, to use throughout the night.

IMG 2060

A nip of their favorite liquor, for me tequila.

IMG 2063

Gum, water, and chocolate

IMG 2062

flip flops, a makeup remover wipe, lip gloss, nail polish & file, hand sanitizer and mardi gras beads (from New Orleans)

Most of our night was spent on this:

DSCN1929

Which was why we included some of the items listed. Plus we were able to give everyone their bag at dinner and they wouldn’t have to lug it around all night!

Now here is your chance to win one of the bachelorette bags, stocked with your favorites.

This giveaway ends Tuesday, June 18, 2012, at 11:59PM EST. Entering is easy, but make sure you write a comment for each method of entry so that they are all counted when I randomly select the winners!

REQUIRED: Tell me which item you love the most from the bachelorette bag above!

Follow @cupcakekellys on Twitter.

Tweet “I want to win a customized bachelorette bag from @CupcakeKellys! http://bit.ly/NtZYvt” and include the tweet’s link when you comment saying you did so.

Good Luck Everyone!

Three Things Thursday!

This week has been crazy busy, I literally have made a to do list for every single day. This weeks installment is all about what has been going on in my life.

1. B and I attended a music class every week at our local Gymboree Play & Music and from Memorial Day to Labor Day, as long as we are enrolled we can also take as many Play & Learn classes as we want. This week has been crazy so we were only able to add in one additional class, but I am hoping that one things settle we will be able to do our music class and at least 2 play & learn classes a week.

2. I have been planning my sister-in-laws bachelorette party since MARCH. The big event is this weekend. I cannot wait to share with you all what I have planned. She’s been kept in the dark about everything so I don’t want to risk it now, you will all have to wait until next week to see the details.

3. We just got the invitations for B’s FIRST birthday, and they are gorgeous. But um, how has it been almost a year? Not okay. My baby is growing much to fast.

Any big plans for you this weekend?

Thursday Things

1. My little munchkin is finally crawling! He had been pulling himself up on things even before he started crawling. I think he will be walking in no time.

2. Nights out with friends are not the same as they once was. I, for one, was a mess the next day. Nick and I had a full day planned and it was pouring. If we didn’t have plans I would’ve stayed in bed most of the days. Although I did bounce back quicker than I thought I would.

Also a lesson in photos.
This is what you look like when you’ve been dating less than a year:

This is what you look like when you are engaged:

And this is what you look like when you’ve been married for 4 years:

Special.

3. I have the itch to plan a vacation. I want to go to the beach, who is with me?

4. I am so excited for this weekend. I am finally meeting Cait! I am also attending my sister-in-laws bridal shower. So pumped for the champagne tower, and obviously celebrating her big day.

I also have this dress to wear. Love.

5. I need a pair of nude pumps. Where are your favorites from?

6. The top secret bachelorette plans are almost complete. June 9th, get here.

Thursday Things: loving my life

I am linking up with Averie for Thursday Things.

Life is pretty good right now, no complaints from me.

1. I signed up for another 5k. Hopefully there will be at least one before this, however this one is pretty awesome. It is the Color Me Rad 5k. Seriously take the 2 minutes to watch the video, that alone will put a smile on your face. I am running the race on May 26, in Hartford CT. I can’t run the Boston race because of conflict. However if you want to run the CT race and join my team (Cupcake Kelly’s) let me know!

Also, whoever runs the Color Me Rad twitter is hilarious.

Just do yourself a favor and sign up, if you don’t have fun I will buy you a beer.

And this is the inspiration video they posted:

2. Blogging Friends.

I never would have though that I would have met people that I have a ton in common with and talk to on a regular basis, or other moms who are looking for mom friends through my blog. But I did. I have met some wonderful women through my blogging and I am so grateful for that.

Last week we had a playmate with Colleen and her son Lyle who is 5 weeks younger than B. It was a beautiful date and I had a great time. I hope Colleen and Lyle did too! I hope once the weather gets back to being beautiful we can have more of these. Especially when the boys are older and more able to interact with one another.

IMG 2527

I also have made a great friend with Caitlin, a foodie and fitness blogger who of all places lives 15 minutes away from Nick’s family. She wrote this great post about blogging friends, and I might be a bit biased since she mentions me, but I have to agree with her, blogging has brought so many more benefits than I ever anticipated. And whole Cait and I have yet to meet, it will happen ASAP since I am in CT so often.

3. I am still grateful for my real life friends and family. Many of them have been my biggest cheerleaders when it comes to running and blogging, and I am eternally grateful for that.

4. I am grateful for such a happy baby. Even when he is sick he is in high spirits.

IMG 2562

IMG 2568

I also opened one of his Christmas toys that we had no room for so we had put in the closet until we needed a new toy, well because every sick baby deserves a new toy :)

5. Somedays I think I should have been a party or wedding planner. I am enjoying putting together my sister-in-laws bachelorette. That’s all I can say since she might read this.

What things are you loving about your life lately?
