A Very Exciting Announcement!

Lets just get right to the most important thing about this blog post:

BABYB2I never really talked about our post-miscarriage TTC journey, partially because everyone’s journey is different and what (eventually) worked for us may or may not work for someone else. It is also something that I felt was too personal to put on blast for anyone to read. I have no problem talking to someone one-on-one if you are interested.

How Far Along?

I am 14 weeks, my due date is early July, in fact it is two days after B’s birthday. We don’t know the gender, yet. We will be finding out, mostly because I have zero patience!

How Did You Find Out?

Since we were working with an Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE) we had a scheduled blood test. About a week before the test I started noticing my exhaustion, I have always been a morning workout gal, and some days I would be more tired than others, but for a week I was constantly exhausted post-gym. I would climb back into bed and fall asleep immediately and Nick would have to wake me up once he was done in the bathroom. I had never had that kind of exhaustion before, except during my pregnancies.

I ended up taking a pregnancy test prior to my blood test, see zero patience, and the second line (aka a positive) never showed. In anger I tossed the test at the garbage. When I got home from the gym, I realized I didn’t actually get the test in the garbage, it landed next to it, so I picked it up and the second line had shown up, apparently I just didn’t wait long enough.

How Are You Feeling?

I am feeling much better than I was for the past 12-13 weeks. I just tend to have rough pregnancies, with B I was nauseous for the first 20 weeks, and I am glad this time around I did seem to start to feel better with the onset of the second trimester.

Now, I feel exhausted. Since B does not nap anymore it means mom does not get to nap, so I end up going to bed very very early every single night. I can also feel my sciatic pain creeping back in, I just hope it doesn’t fully set in for at least 5-6 weeks more.

How Is Your Fitness & Eating?

Food wise, I basically survived on potatoes, in any form, the first trimester. I had zero desire to eat any sweets or veggies. I tried to force one salad or veggie heavy meal at least once a day, but sometimes it just didn’t happen. I have also been obsessed with egg sandwiches, and I still am, unless I am in a rush I have one every morning for breakfast.

Now I am feeling at about 90%, and I am trying to make super healthy meals for us to eat. Since I am exhausted I try to make things that will last 2-3 nights so that I only end up really cooking 3 times a week, plus one night of pizza or some sort of takeout. I’ve been making a lot of veggie heavy soups or chili’s, perfect for cold weather and for laziness.

Fitness on the other hand has been at a standstill. There was a hemorrhage on the gestational sac, of course after a miscarriage hearing that freaked me out. Especially since I could spot or bleed during my pregnancy. It hasn’t happened, thankfully, but is still scary just to think about.

So this meant that I was on a modified bed rest. It meant absolutely no lifting (which a 3-year-old DOES NOT understand), no physical relations, and no exercise. Basically I did the bare minimum and felt like a crazy person. The bleed is now gone, thank goodness, and I can get back to a normal routine. I’ve been taking it easy slowly getting back into it with yoga at home, but I am looking forward to getting back into the studio(s) very soon!

How Did B React?

He is super excited. He helped us pack up some residual baby toys and some of his stuffed animals for the baby. He loves to talk to my belly and tells the baby how much he loves it. I can’t wait to see him as a big brother, I think he will be amazing, even if he did tell us “baby girl or baby nothing”.

Will You Be Blogging About Your Pregnancy?

I will probably post updates occasionally, and include how I’m feeling with my workout recaps. but I just can’t remember to do the photos and the weekly recaps.

So glad to finally share my marvelous news and link up with Katie again!

Any other questions I missed?

Five Things Friday: Zooma Training Plan & Pure Barre Goals

Five Things Friday1. Zooma Cape Cod Training Plan

I finally made a training plan for the Zooma Cape Cod 10K. I start on Monday, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about it. I am worried, terrified is actually the more appropriate word. I need this redemption race so badly, but I am scared of what the outcome could be.

In other exciting Zooma news, the race is sold out!! How exciting! Leave me a comment and let me know if you are running, and we can try to get together! If you are running, Marathon Sports is hosting a 10-mile training run for those participating in the half-marathon.  It is Saturday, September 18 at 8 am at the Mashpee Marathon Sports. Click on the link to RSVP if you plan on attending, and stock up on any fuel you might need for the race. Marathon Sports is my go-to store for any running questions or guidance so I am super excited that they are hosting this run.

Cross-training is definitely going to be Pure Barre, some Yoga, and probably a little bit of DanceFIT thrown in!

2. Pure Barre 100 Club

IMG_8934

It’s no secret that I love Pure Barre. It has been my saving grace these last six months, and the community is wonderful. I just got an email from one of the wonderful women that work there and she told me that I am over halfway to the Pure Barre 100 club. 45 awesome classes until I become part of the club!

3. Wedding Fun

IMG_8859

He was so stinking good the entire wedding, I couldn’t believe it. I mean he is pretty laid back, but being in a wedding makes for a long fay for anyone. He even participated in some Greek dancing and pretty much refused to leave the dance floor!

4. Boston Fun

IMG_8927

We went into Boston with my aunt and cousins for the afternoon, then met up with Nick and my uncle for dinner. I haven’t ventured into the city by myself with B, but this trip definitely made me realize that we could probably do it!

5. Thankful

I know I say this a lot but I am very thankful for those who have been such integral parts of my life, especially during this recovery process and moments when the grief makes me sad and angry. I am blessed to have such a wonderful support group of family and friends.

What’s on your mind this gorgeous friday?

Weekly Updates: 07/07/14 – 07/20/14

20140323-222747.jpgNow we are getting all caught up! I am planning on sharing my Zooma training plan at the end of this week with you all, and that will hopefully add some variety to my workouts!

07/07 – 07/13

Tuesday I had a double, Poise Fusion Xpress in the morning and Pure Barre in the afternoon.

Wednesday and Friday I also took a Pure Barre class and Thursday I took Buti at Studio Poise. Thursday was my last forseeable class at Studio Poise. I don’t have any more classes in my account, and while I love the variety and teachers there I just wasn’t super motivated to get out of bed for class, and that for me means it is time to switch it up.

07/14 – 07/20

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were Pure Barre days. Since I have the Summer Slimdown special, I want to make the most of it. Unfortunately, every single one of my July weekends is packed, so I am trying to get at least 3-4 classes in a week.

Food

IMG_8771

The past two weekends have been hard, we had B’s birthday party, OMG I CAN’T BELIEVE HE IS THREE, and this past weekend was a close friend/family member’s wedding and B was the ring bearer. That meant a lot of time around not such great food, and I think I did really well, considering.  I have written before about how summer is more difficult for me, but I have been making an effort to make sure I am eating 100% clean and healthy when I am home, and that way I don’t feel guilty when I don’t have healthy options!

What have you been doing for workouts this summer?

The Great Debate: Birthday Gift Bags

I know it has been a few months since my last debate post, but I decided to bring them back because they are fun.

IMG_6276.JPG

Being one of the few couples in our group of friends with kids, we haven’t gone to a lot of kids birthday parties…yet. Between the ones we have gone too, and the ones I have seen on blogs and pinterest, there is one thing that stands out as being very different from the kids parties of my childhood. The gift bag.

I like to use Pinterest as a jumping point for B’s birthday parties. I don’t have the time to DIY or the money to throw these elaborate themed birthday parties. A delicious cake, food, and a monogrammed birthday shirt are about as far as my abilities take me. I still look in case I come across something that I might be able to handle, but usually that’s not the case.

Almost, every time we leave a birthday party now, B is given a gift bag with a few toys, maybe some crayons, something that cost somewhere between $5 and $15 when all is said and done. If you have even 10 kids, that can be a huge expense.

When I was a kid, I brought someone a gift to their party and that was that. The family provided the food, cake, entertainment and the friends brought the gifts. That’s what has happened with all of B’s parties as well.

Did I miss something, do we need to provide the kids that attend our children’s parties with a gift bag? If so, when does it stop? I have a hard time with this. I don’t think we need to provide these kids that attend with anything extra but I also don’t want to be that grouchy mom…

So here is where you weigh in, what do you think of this gift bag trend? Do you love it? Hate it? Or participate in it?

I'm with B...just give me the cake

Dad Is Fat: Parenting is Fun(ny)

This post was inspired by the novel Dad Is Fat by comedian Jim Gaffigan who riffs on his adventures co-parenting 5 kids in a two bedroom Manhattan apartment. Join From Left to Write on April 22 we discuss Dad Is Fat. As a member, I received a copy of the book for review purposes.

Dad-Is-Fat-From-Left-to-Write-Banner

This is the 4th book for the month of April for From Left to Write this month, and possibly one of my favorites. I have been a fan of Jim Gaffigan’s for a while so I knew, especially since I am a parent, that I would love his book. As I read I kept marking passage after passage that would give me ideas of what to write about, and there are a million ideas I have swirling around in my head.

What I ended up deciding on is something that I find some parents struggle with, and those who aren’t parents might not understand. Parenting is fun, but it is also funny, but it isn’t for everyone. Having kids, especially if you are the first among friends and family, can be very alienating. You are navigating this brand new part of life, and are in charge of this human being (!!), and you don’t have anyone who can relate to you.

Jim Gaffigan writes about how he is called anti-family because of some of the things he says or posts on social media, and I too have gotten rude comments about things I have said. As Jim writes in the book, complaining about taking your kids to swim lessons or navigating the world of play dates doesn’t make you a bad parent, you are taking your kids to these events, and most of the time other parents can relate about how hard some aspects of parenting are.

It is hard to find mom friends and play groups if you don’t have kids at the same time as your social circle. But I guarantee you will have some stories to share that are on-par with blind date horror stories.

2013-07-19-22.40.36.jpg

You will learn that swim diapers are not meant to hold pee, and will have a horrifying moment before you realize that, and then you will laugh at your ridiculousness.

 IMG_7394.jpg

You will constantly question if you are doing things the “right way” and social media will always tell you that you are doing it the wrong way. Spoiler, social media is full of martyr moms and know-it-alls.

photo-1.JPGYou will find your own way as a parent, and just when you thought you’ve got one aspect figured out, something else will throw you for a loop…I’m talking to you sleep.

IMG_5596.JPGAnd if you are lucky, you will find someone to share this journey with you. A dad to your child that you just couldn’t imagine parenting without. The person that will laugh with you when you finally share your ridiculous swim diaper story, and who will also have their story to share with you.

I loved this book, I laughed through the whole thing and I had to refrain from reading passages to Nick every 30 seconds. I highly suggest you get your own copy ASAP!

What is one of your hilarious parenting stories?

Reasons My Kid Is Crying: Review

This post was inspired by the novel Reasons My Kid Is Crying by Greg Pembroke who captures frustrating yet hilarious parenting moments through perfectly captioned photos of unhappy kids. Join From Left to Write on April 15 we discuss Reasons My Kid Is Crying. As a member, I received a copy of the book for review purposes.

April is kind of insane month for From Left to Write contributors, the original books for the month were just: The Idea of Him and The Opposite of Maybe, and I signed up for both. Then we got word that we’d also have the option to review Reasons My Kid Is Crying by Greg Pembroke and Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan, but that essentially means one review a week, and A LOT of reading, but I was up for the challenge.

Luckily, Reasons My Kid is Crying is more of a picture book. It is just as describe above, pictures of kids crying with hilarious captions, if you are a parent you’ve probably seen the website that started it all.

IMG_8070He is crying because his UCONN shirt is dirty and I wouldn’t take it out of the hamper.

Parenting is full of ups and downs, but a lot of time I feel like you look back and laugh at a lot of the stuff that was ridiculous and silly, but you thought was so serious when it happened.

This book would make a great gift for a new parent or a veteran parent, or even if you want to buy it for yourself, it would make a great coffee table book…as long as the toddler hands don’t get to it. Or connect with Greg on Facebook and Twitter.

Do you have a funny crying photo or story about your child?

Confessions of a Mom, Vol. 10

Before we get to today’s post, I just want to say there has been too much loss in the past year, in the city of Boston and in my personal life. Many thoughts and prayers to the Boston Fire Department and to the families and friends of the two firefighters who lost their lives doing their job. Thank you to all first responders, everywhere, without you wouldn’t be safe.
