Stitch Fix #3 and #4! June and July 2014

Before I get to my reviews, I would love if you could go LIKE this photo on Instagram, I am in the running to win a month unlimited at my local Pure Barre, I just need the most likes on this photo, any likes are appreciated, and I will make sure to follow you!

I appreciate all of your feedback on my last Stitch Fix post, I ended up not purchasing anything and emailing Stitch Fix about my disappointment. They ended up refunding my $20 styling fee and I emailed back and forth for a few days with a stylist, Jackie, who ended up styling fix #3 and #4.

Stitch Fix

For Stitch Fix #3 I asked for fun and flowy pieces and some options for my 30th birthday.

Andrew Marc Crystal Abstract Print Sheath Dress – $128

Andrew Marc Crystal Abstract Print Sheath Dress

This dress was way too long and boxy on me, I couldn’t even take a picture, I looked like a little kid in her mom’s clothes. Returned

Pomelo Moni Stud Detailed 3/4 Sleeve Blouse – $58

Pomelo Moni Stud Detailed 3/4 Sleeve Blouse

I really loved the sheerness and style of this top, unfortunately, I have broad shoulders like a football player, and the shirt felt like it pulled too much in that area. I would have loved it if it was a tank top and a tad bit cheaper. Returned

Papermoon Andi Ikat Print Maxi Skirt – $58

Papermoon Andi Ikat Print Maxi Skirt

I LOVED this skirt, it was super soft and I loved the print. It was a bit long, but I have a family member that can hem it for me so I won’t have to pay for that. It was pricy, but I have never been able to find a maxi skirt that I love so I purchased it. Purchased

THML Kahlo Racer Back Striped Maxi Dress – $78

THML Kahlo Racer Back Striped Maxi Dress

I loved the color of this dress and the pattern and style, but I hated it when I put it on, it just wasn’t super flattering on me, which was a bummer since it was the perfect length for my 5’1″ frame. Returned

Bay to Baubles Salinas Carved Leaf Drop Earrings – $28

IMG_8603Bay to Baubles Salinas Carved Leaf Drop Earrings

I don’t own a ton of earrings, I loved that these were very lightweight! Purchased

2 Items Purchased – $86 – $20 fee = $66

Stitch Fix #4 - After the 3rd box I updated my Pinterest Style Page and made sure to send the link with my feedback. I asked for legging style or stretchy pants, as they are more conducive for running after a very active toddler. I also asked for flowy tops and statement jewelry.

This one I need a bit of help with, I just got it yesterday, and need to return what I don’t want tomorrow, but I can’t decided!

Tart Eames Geo Print Gathered Waist Knit Shirt – $64

Rune Porter Basic Legging – $38

Rune Porter Basic Legging

Um, awkward hands. I LOVED the leggings, they were thick, comfortable and fit perfectly! And the price is perfect! I am definitely keeping these.

Le Sample Kahlo Embroidered Racerback Tank – $48

Le Sample Kahlo Embroidered Racerback Tank

I loved this tank, it is pretty much the same as the maxi dress above. I loved the blue colors and the design! I am wearing the leggings they sent with this top as well!

Kut From The Kloth Callie Denim Jacket – $78

Kut From The Kloth Callie Denim Jacket

I am on the fence about this jacket. My sister loved it, but it is a bit expensive. I also wanted to show you the back of this tank!

Zad Lisa Beaded Open Shape Bib Necklace – $44

Zad Lisa Beaded Open Shape Bib Necklace

I liked the look of the necklace in the box, but it isn’t as great as I thought it would be. The material seemed sort of dingy and not worth the price tag.

So here is my dilemma, I am for sure getting the leggings and tank, I can’t imagine sending them back. However, if I get the jean jacket it would be only $20 more to purchase everything (with the 25% discount for purchasing everything). What do you think? Jean jacket, yay or nay?

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: I’ve Got a Golden Ticket!

This post was inspired by the classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. To celebrate, Penguin Young Readers Group, in partnership with Dylan’s Candy Bar, the world-famous candy emporium, and First Book, a nonprofit social enterprise that provides books for children from low-income families, is launching a year-long international celebration.

Head over to From Left to Write to learn how you and your child can have a chance to win the Golden Ticket Sweepstakes where the grand prize is a magical trip to New York City plus much more! For every entry submitted, Penguin Young Readers Group will make a donation to First Book. Then, join From Left to Write on July 24 as we discuss Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As a book club member, I received a copy of the book for review purposes.

I don’t know about you, but I am one of those annoying people where I totally believe the book is better than the movie, and the remake is NEVER as good as the original. However Charlie and the Chocolate Factory only falls into one of those categories. I saw Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory before I ever read the book.

While I believe the remake is much closer to the original story written by Roald Dahl 50 years ago, the original movie will always hold a special place in my heart. Spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen both movies!

The opening credits always made me crave milky sweet chocolate. I always wished that I had a local candy shop like Charlie and his classmates. I think, hands down, my favorite part of the movie is when Willie Wonka leads the kids and their guardian through the factory and into the first room with the fudge waterfall and the gigantic gummy bears. Did you ever talk about what you would eat first if you ended up in that room, because my sister and I totally did. I totally memorized all the oompa loompa songs in the original movie and I have to say, I loved those way more than the ones in the second movie.

There were parts that totally scared the pants off of me, and probably you too. The scenes with Mr. Slugworth, totally creepy, and the boat ride after the first room, terrifying. These are scenes that are most definitely not in the remake, but are also not part of the book. And can we talk about the part where Charlie’s mom sings in the alleyway? Does anyone like that part?

Are you more of a fan of the original or the remake? Any favorite parts that remind you of childhood?

Weekly Updates: 07/07/14 – 07/20/14

20140323-222747.jpgNow we are getting all caught up! I am planning on sharing my Zooma training plan at the end of this week with you all, and that will hopefully add some variety to my workouts!

07/07 – 07/13

Tuesday I had a double, Poise Fusion Xpress in the morning and Pure Barre in the afternoon.

Wednesday and Friday I also took a Pure Barre class and Thursday I took Buti at Studio Poise. Thursday was my last forseeable class at Studio Poise. I don’t have any more classes in my account, and while I love the variety and teachers there I just wasn’t super motivated to get out of bed for class, and that for me means it is time to switch it up.

07/14 – 07/20

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were Pure Barre days. Since I have the Summer Slimdown special, I want to make the most of it. Unfortunately, every single one of my July weekends is packed, so I am trying to get at least 3-4 classes in a week.

Food

The past two weekends have been hard, we had B’s birthday party, OMG I CAN’T BELIEVE HE IS THREE, and this past weekend was a close friend/family member’s wedding and B was the ring bearer. That meant a lot of time around not such great food, and I think I did really well, considering.  I have written before about how summer is more difficult for me, but I have been making an effort to make sure I am eating 100% clean and healthy when I am home, and that way I don’t feel guilty when I don’t have healthy options!

What have you been doing for workouts this summer?

Weekly Updates: 06/02/14 – 07/06/14

Yikes, it’s been awhile huh? I feel like a broken record, but summer is just so crazy busy! We haven’t had a free weekend since Memorial Day, and really only had a few free since Easter. Blogging just falls to back burner sometimes. I am starting training for Zooma soon,so I will be posting these more frequently as I incorporate runs back into my weekly workouts. FYI if you are interested in Zooma they are almost sold out, use code CCAMB9 to get 10% off your entry!

06/02 – 06/08

Monday – Buti Xpress at Studio Poise, Buti is what I would describe as “sexy yoga”. It is yoga, tribal dance, and plyometrics all in one class. I was definitely apprehensive, but I am really glad I did. It pushed me way out of my comfort zone…in a good way.

Tuesday – Poise Xpress at Studio Poise. I love Emily’s class and was happy to see progress since the last time I took this class.

Friday – Pound at Studio Poise, another favorite at SP and another great class taught by Emily. We had some new routines, which is also fun, and really brings out how uncoordinated I am, haha.

Sunday – My first DanceFIT class in Natick, I loved it so much I bought a Groupon! I loved the class, the studio, and Gina {owner and instructor} was awesome! If you are in the area make sure you check it out!

06/09 – 06/15 & 06/10 -06/22

We started potty training B the first week, and I decided that it would be easier if I could be home when he woke up so that we could get our bathroom routine down. We took lots of walks at home and I did some videos when I could squeeze them in.

06/23 – 06/29

Wednesday and Thursday I went to Pure Barre, and was super glad to be back in the swing of things, but damn I was sore.

06/30 – 06/06

Tuesday and Wednesday were Pure Barre days, then we headed to CT for Independence Day festivities, and I spent a lot of time chasing B around and swimming. I purchased a deal for unlimited July & August classes at Pure Barre, so I will be alternating that with running and training!

FOOD:

I had another appointment with my nutritionist. I am keeping all the same goals as last time, but I am adding two, the first is to make sure I am eating enough protein at every meal, we’ve discussed numbers, but what works for me  might not work for you, so I will keep those numbers between us. The second goal is to work out 4 times a week, it is going to be a bit of a challenge just because of all the events, travel, and hosting we will be doing, but I will work it out!

What is your summer workout plan?

FAVORITES!

• Quote: These are somewhat silly but these quotes have been some of my favorites for years:
“Pain, you just have to ride it out, hope it goes away on its own, hope the wound that caused it heals. There are no solutions, no easy answers, you just breath deep and wait for it to subside. Most of the time pain can be managed but sometimes the pain gets you where you least expect it. Hits way below the belt and doesn’t let up. Pain, you just have to fight through, because the truth is you can’t outrun it and life always makes more. ” Meredith, Greys Anatomy

“It’s good to know that the ones you love will always be in your heart. And if you’re very lucky, only a plane ride away. ” Carrie, Sex and the City

“I will never be the woman with the perfect hair, who can wear white and not spill on it.” Carrie, Sex and the City

• Kids’ Names: I’ll never tell

• Potato Chip Flavor:  Cape Cod Waffle Cut, so so good

• Ice Cream Flavor: Peanut Butter Oreo from Richardson’s, What a Cluster from B&J

• Season: I love summer, but with a toddler I am loving Fall so much more lately.

• Dessert: Cupcakes….obviously? I do love a good brownie and lemon bars though!

• Life Hack: Put newspaper in wet sneakers, the usually dry overnight.

Answer one of the above! Especially if you have a great life hack!

Birthday, Billy Joel, and Bachelorette

Anyone else think, Beets, Bears, Battlestar Galactica? No, just me? Moving on.

The past few weeks have been crazy busy, so I figured I would catch you up on all the fun stuff.

Last week I turned 30! Yikes, Nick and I decided to rent a party bus and have all our family and friends on board so that we could see everyone we wanted and not have a party at our house. Since we will be at a wedding for Nick’s 30th we decided we’d have a party for both of us! Unfortunately, I still didn’t get to spend time with everyone, but I had a wonderful time, even if my stomach was killing me the next day!

vueveI mean you have to start your birthday with champagne, right?

IMG_8621

My sister, some friends, and I pre-bus

IMG_8634

And a group shot of course, missing a few people, but we tried!

After that last photo things started to get messy so I will not share those photos ha! But it was a great time regardless!

For my birthday gift, Nick generously bought me tickets to Billy Joel at Fenway. Billy Joel is in my top 5 favorite musicians of all time, and I saw him, I think 8 years ago, when he came to the Garden. Seeing artists at Fenway is amazing, if you live in the city and an artist you like comes to Fenway, GO! it is so worth it!

Prior to the show Nick and I tried this new Greek place that is in the Fenway area, Gyro City, they have authentic Gyros so we had to try them. They were pretty close to what you will get in Greece, so we were very impressed. If you need someone to go with you to try them you know who to ask!

GyroWe also had some amazing Greek fries. Basically, they are thick cut fries with feta and oregano!

GreekFries

After food we headed over to Fenway and walked off our dinner before heading into the concert!

Billy Joel at FenwayNick and I & our view

Billy Joel at Fenway

THE man!

Billy, we are on a first name basis, was amazing. He played a lot of the classic songs, but he also played some songs that only some real hardcore fans would be able to recall. He is also a New York man through and through, so while he played the beloved Sweet Caroline, he did not sing, which I found amusing. I did appreciate that he didn’t sing New York State of Mind, instead he had a young girl come out and sing Boston State of Mind as a nod to everything this city has been through and a show of support. After the concert Nick was looking through his twitter feed and saw some complaints about it, you can’t please everyone, and while I love him singing New York State of Mind, the respect that he gave to Boston was amazing, and made me love him even more! My only complaint is that he did not sing We Didn’t Start the Fire, that is my favorite Billy song, but the concert was amazing regardless!

After a crazy whirlwind week, we headed to Connecticut to spend some time with Nick’s family and I had a bachelorette to partake in!

Mohegan BacheloretteBachelorette

We went to Mohegan sun to have a wonderful dinner, hit the club, and of course gamble. I was spent and can’t believe I stayed up until 3 am!!! I had so much fun with all the wonderful women that came to the bachelorette and I can’t wait to celebrate the wedding soon!

What have you been up to? Anything fun that I’ve missed?
