June Foodie Penpals

I received my June foodie penpals box from Amy who blogs at Sweet Star Cakes!

The Lean Green Bean

I know I have said this before, but this has been the best box yet. Amy really catered to my baking sweet tooth and picked out some great summer items.

DSCN2080

I haven’t made these…yet, but lemonade is one of my favorite summer indulgences. I can’t wait to whip up these cookies. I have been staring at the box since it arrived, I just haven’t had a reason to make them yet.

DSCN2081

I love twizzlers! I will say I am more of a plain twirler gal, but these were a nice surprise. A little tart and sweet.

DSCN2079

Yum, peanut butter. Peanut Butter & Co is my favorite peanut butter brand, and Justin’s is a close second. You can bet that the PB&Co is already opened and the Justin’s is ready for my next trip to Connecticut.

DSCN2082

Amy’s sweet letter, an awesome tumbler and some homemade kale chips. Unfortunately they did get crushed in the shipment, but Amy was one step ahead and suggested that I put them on top of a salad. They were delicious!

I also have a problem when it comes to buying tumblers, just ask Nick, so thank you Amy for enabling my habit haha!

Check out what I sent to Jennifer at Peanut Butter and Peppers!

And now its time for some details about Foodie Penpals. In case you’re a new reader, here’s a reminder of what the program is all about:

-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.

-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!

-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!

-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)

-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.

-Foodie Penpals is open to US & Canadian residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.

If you’re interested in participating for July, please CLICK HERE to fill out the participation form and read the terms and conditions.

You must submit your information by July 4th as pairings will be emailed on July 5th!

*If you’re from somewhere besides the US, Canada or Europe and want to participate, send me an email and I’ll see if we get enough interest this month!

Playlist Thursday: Women’s Empowerment!

I am linking up with Pavement Runner today. I LOVE his music posts, mostly because I am always looking for new running songs to add to my playlist, but because of the format of his posts.

Here is the format via Pavement Runner:

Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.

Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.

Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category, can be old or current.

Today’s theme is Women Empowerment! For me this means songs that empower me to run faster or to become stronger!

SOMETHING OLD
Artist: Christina Aguilera

Title: Fighter

Side Note: I like to use those who tell me I can’t to make me stronger and this song is all about that!

Quotable: Made me learn a little bit faster. Made my skin a little bit thicker. Makes me that much smarter. So thanks for making me a fighter”

SOMETHING CURRENT
Artist: Nicki Minaj

Title: Starships

Side Note: Get the clean version if you don’t want all the curse words, but otherwise I cannot get this song out of my head! I have it on my running playlist at least 3 times.

Quotable: Starships were meant to fly. Hands up, and touch the sky

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER
Artist: Kelly Clarkson

Title: What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger)

Side Note: This song is my I want to quit but I won’t song. It is always the right amount of inspiration to keep going

Quotable: What doesn’t kill you makes a fighter. Footsteps even lighter.

SO WHAT! Wednesday

I am linking up with Shannon for another round up of So What! Wednesday.

This week I am saying so what if…

❊ I had planned to do a bunch of things before wedding festivities, but I spent the past few days snuggling with my sick baby.

❊ I spend my few baby-free hours, getting a sweat in and getting coffee. It’s the little things.

❊ If most of my posts this week are link ups and guest posts

❊ I am just as nervous as I was to walk down the aisle as bridesmaid as I was when I was the bride

❊ I have been looking forward to this wedding weekend for months!

THREE DAYS!

What are you saying SO WHAT! to this week?

Mental vs. Physical

Check out my guest post for Heather today at with a Side of Sneakers on working out at home!

I got the BEST gift ever from my husband for my birthday!

IMG 3209
I don’t care if I am slow, at least I am moving haha

I had a really long chat with my trainer on Friday about how far I have come, and not just physically. For me, working out is not just overcoming physical obstacles, it is overcoming mental obstacles.

When we first started training together, I would give up when something because too hard. I would continue to do the exercises but I would drop weight or for example, with boxing I would hit the pads like I was tapping something.

Nowadays, I have to make the most of my workouts. I don’t have tons of free time to workout and I want to make it worth it. Now I add weight, or I am vocal with my trainer, still the same guy, when something is too easy. My strength training has come a long way.

My running on the other hand, not so much. When my legs hurt or it’s hot out, or a million other reasons, I give up. On my last team run I was able to run the entire 5 miles without a walk break, but there were definitely times when I was thinking let me just walk for 30 seconds. But then I would look at my watch, and think okay 4 miles in you can run this last mile you don’t need to stop.

I definitely have room for improvement when it comes to my mental running, but now that I have this fancy schmancy watch I am hoping it becomes the item I need to keep pushing me farther!

How do you get out of your head when you are running?

28.

I have gone from this

to this

DSCN1905

In just 28 years.

And along the way I have learned some valuable lessons.

❊ Love with your whole heart, give it away, let it get broken, learn what you want in life.

❊ Don’t let any relationship, friend, family or romance, make you feel worthless. You are worth something, the person that is making you feel like nothing is a waste of time.

❊ Have fun. Live life to the fullest, don’t do something because it is what is expected of you or because it’s the norm.

❊ Do something scary.

So What Wednesday & a Giveaway winner!

I am linking up with Shannon for So What! Wednesday.

This week I am saying so what if…

❊ If I took B’s 11 month photo’s and never put them on the blog
❊ I prefer texting over phone calls.
❊ I cry over something stupid, sometimes a girl just needs a good cry
❊ I want a bazillion things for B’s birthday, even though we don’t have any room for more stuff
❊ I love wearing workout clothes and getting really fancy, but nothing in between
❊ I have reviews for blog posts that are months behind
❊ I take a lot of ridiculous photos of my child

What are you saying SO WHAT! to this week?

Oh and those photo’s here is one!

Bachelorette Party Recap

Don’t forget, you have until 11:59 pm EST tonight to enter the Bachelorette Giveaway!

I had started planning my sister-in-laws bachelorette party since March. I am glad I can talk about it now, I actually kept it a secret from her, and if you know me, you know that is a HUGE feat.

Our first part of the night was dinner at Legal Seafoods in Cambridge. We had a prix fixe menu in a semi-private room. Let me say that if you are planning an event in the area, this place was phenomenal to work with. I have always loved legal seafoods, but the team I worked with and that handled our party that night was above and beyond what I expected. I even dropped off boxes of stuff a few hours before our reservation and the staff set everything up for me.

DSCN1889

I was also able to customize our menu in her honor!

DSCN1900

We didn’t get any shots of the first or second course, but I have plenty of the entrees and dessert!

Before dinner, a cheers to the bride to be!

I also had to be rude and FaceTime with my baby!

The other entree that was popular, filet with mashed potato and broccoli

My sister ordered the everything spiced tuna, OH MY GOSH, this was so good!

I ordered the salmon, I knew I’d be drinking and wanted to eat as healthy as possible

After dinner we hopped on the bachelorette bus that we booked through The Bustonian.

Unfortunately I did not get a photo with everyone who attended but I hope you all had an amazing time :)

Again, we had a phenomenal bus driver that went above and beyond for us. I could not be happier with how the night turned out.

In a few weeks I will be standing on the alter with some of these women and we will all watch her marry her best friend. I cannot wait to be a part of the celebration.

Fitness Friday: My Fitness Bucket List

Being an Ambassador for Fitfluential, is something I am grateful to be a part of every day! I have a great support network for my sometimes crazy fitness dreams and goals. Just recently, we were all asked to make a pin board about our fitness bucket list, thanks for enabling the crazy fitfluential ;).

The Ambassadors, myself included, took off with this request, I made my board that night.

Screen Shot 2012 06 14 at 11 22 29 PM

Right now my list has 15 items. I am sure I will be adding more as I go, but here are a few of the ones I am really pumped about.

1. The number one race I must run

THE Boston Marathon. I grew up on Boston history and sports. I have lived just outside the city for almost 6 years now. If I only ever run one marathon, this will be it. There is so much history with this race, and while the race itself may be boring, the spectators make it worth it.

2. My first BIG race

The Nike Women’s Half. Running on 10.14.2012 with Team in Training, I am excited and terrified.

3. Phone a Friend?

I have always wanted to do a relay, but honestly right now my pace is just too slow.

4. Blogging

Attend a blogging conference. I am registered for Healthy Living Summit this August, luckily it is in Boston, which means less cost for me.

5. Run one DISNEY race

Okay, okay, busted. I would love to run all of them. Seriously they just look fun, and is something the whole family could be a part of.

Most of my fitness bucket list is in the running spectrum, I know there are other things out there that I have been dying to do, I just need to write them all down!

What are your fitness bucket list items?

Remember you have until Tuesday to enter the customized bachelorette bag giveaway!

Bachelorette Recap: The Preview & a Giveaway!

If you follow me on twitter you probably know already that it was my sister-in-law’s bachelorette this weekend. We planned for the event to be in Boston so that I could host all the girls. It was a lot of fun and everything went off smoothly.

Part of what I did (with my sister) was to make a goodie bag for everyone in attendance, stocked with party treats.

Let’s start with the bags:

IMG 2054

Each girl received a tote bag that I personalized with their name.

In the bags:

IMG 2056

A reusable plastic cup, personalized with their name, to use throughout the night.

IMG 2060

A nip of their favorite liquor, for me tequila.

IMG 2063

Gum, water, and chocolate

IMG 2062

flip flops, a makeup remover wipe, lip gloss, nail polish & file, hand sanitizer and mardi gras beads (from New Orleans)

Most of our night was spent on this:

DSCN1929

Which was why we included some of the items listed. Plus we were able to give everyone their bag at dinner and they wouldn’t have to lug it around all night!

Now here is your chance to win one of the bachelorette bags, stocked with your favorites.

This giveaway ends Tuesday, June 18, 2012, at 11:59PM EST. Entering is easy, but make sure you write a comment for each method of entry so that they are all counted when I randomly select the winners!

REQUIRED: Tell me which item you love the most from the bachelorette bag above!

Follow @cupcakekellys on Twitter.

Tweet “I want to win a customized bachelorette bag from @CupcakeKellys! http://bit.ly/NtZYvt” and include the tweet’s link when you comment saying you did so.

Good Luck Everyone!
